Warframe Is Storming Onto Nintendo Switch With Two New Explosive Expansion Packs
Panic Button is porting Warframe, a free-to-play online shooter developed by Digital Extremes, over to the Nintendo Switch. The port was announced in a 52-second trailer posted to YouTube and also at TennoCon 2018, the game's third annual (and official) convention that took place in London over the weekend. Digital Extremes is also working on a couple of expansion packs.
Unfortunately, there are not many details regarding the Nintendo Switch port, including when Switch owners can expect the game to arrive. The trailer didn't reveal any major surprises either. We have high hopes though, considering that Panic Button is the same publisher that ported Doom and Wolfenstein over to the hybrid game console.
"The hit cooperative, sci-fi action game, Warframe, is coming to Nintendo Switch!
They were called Tenno. Warriors of blade and gun—masters of the Warframe armor. Those that survived the Old War were left drifting among the ruins. Now they are needed once more," reads the YouTube description.
The idea of being able to play Warframe on the go is intriguing, and judging by the comments section of the trailer, it has users Warframe players pretty excited.That is not the only treat, though. Warframe is getting a new cyborg faction and story line through its upcoming Fortuna expansion, which will take place on Venus in an open-world environment.
"Bursting with an imaginative terrain and science fiction aesthetic, Fortuna is introduced with a whimsically synchronized musical video guaranteed to surprise and delight! The Venusian landscape packs exciting new gameplay experiences with the introduction of a new faction and lore—the Solaris United faction and its struggle against their Corpus overlords—and an expanded level of vertical gameplay," Digital Extremes said.
Players can expect exotic new terrain with Orokin structures, towering mushroom stands, and oceanic flora. There will also be a single-player hoverboard to jet across the landscape.
After that, Warframe will be getting a second expansion called Codename: Railjack. This one will arrive later this year and pit players against each other in a new spaceship.
Digital Extremes says Codename: Railjack is part of a grander vision, and will take players down a totally uncharted path.
"Players will coordinate responsibilities across the military spacecraft to engage in PvE combat against hostile enemies. The full space experience grants extensive player freedom with options to launch Archwings into space to board, infiltrate and destroy enemy ships during battles," Digital Extreme says.
The aim with this expansion is to mesh Warframe's open landscapes and procedurally general levels with a new outer-space element.
In addition to coming to the Nintendo Switch, Warframe is currently available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PCs.
