Dell Latitude 7390 2-In-1 Review: A Convertible Built For Business

Dell Latitude 7390 2-in-1: A 13" Business-Class Convertible

Dell has been hard at work updating its notebooks with Intel’s latest 8th Gen Core processors, and we’ve already seen the fruits of their labor in the premium XPS 13. It’s now time for the business-oriented Latitude notebooks to get a taste of Kaby Lake R, so here today we have the Latitude 7390 2-in-1 on the test bench, ready to be put through its paces.

The XPS 13 impressed us with incredible performance, even showing inter-generational gains using the same chip between late 2017 and early 2018 models, thanks to an improved thermal solution among a few other tweaks. The Latitude 7390 we have on deck does not have the XPS’s fancy Gore material layer or dual-blower setup, but it does weigh-in with a slightly faster Core i7-8650U to the XPS 13’s i7-8550U as reviewed -- all in roughly the same 13.3-inch footprint. Will this be enough to give it a performance edge? Well, read on to find out.

Our system is further kitted out with 16GB of 2133MHz LPDDR3 memory, a 512GB NVMe SSD from SK Hynix, and a 1920x1080 WVA Touch Display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 for added durability and Active Pen support. Speaking of the pen, Dell provided us with their PN557W Active Pen and Hybrid Adapter + Power Bank combo, but more on those later. Check out the full specifications below:

Dell Latitude 7390 2in1 On Desk

The Latitude 7390 2-in-1 can optionally be equipped with a mobile broadband radio, with options for AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon here in the United States. Road warriors could find this to be a convenient upgrade so keep an eye out for that option, if interested, when ordering.

We want to clarify that the Latitude 7390 is available, like the XPS 13, as a traditional clamshell model and as a category blurring 2-in-1. There are significant enough differences between the two flavors that our review here will only be pertaining to the 2-in-1 variant.

Let's dive right in, shall we?
